A Gracious Approach ...
Welcome.
This website/forum is for those seeking to find their way when a family
member or friend comes out . It is also a source of support for those who
are coming out. By coming out, I am referring to those who have come to a
realization that they are gay, lesbian, or bisexual and have decided to tell
their family member or friend(s). This is a Christian site with a focus on
working through this from a Christian gracious perspective.
So how shall we begin this journey?? ..
Well first of all, let me say that one of the biggest problems here is the lack
of information. Few in the church have traveled this road.. Folks are often
afraid to ask questions for fear that their real motives will be found out. For
those that do ask questions the answers they receive are often wrong, or
hurtful. So if you are looking for information a good place to start is my
other website .. Coming out For Christians. There you will find some good
information to help you. I might add that I designed that site for straight
parents and their gay children. However, sometimes these roles can be
reversed. This forum does not presume who is who.
Secondly we need to maintain safe harbor here on our forum. Safe harbor
is needed because there has been much hurt projected to those who are
gay and lesbian from some in the church. While there are issues about
which some of us in the church may never agree I do believe that we can
find common ground in Christ. If God through Christ can tear down the
dividing wall between the Jews and the Gentiles (see Ephesians 2:14) and
take out the enmity between them, then surely He can do that here as well
Most websites try to get everyone to believe the same thing about
homosexuality. That is not what I am trying to do. Instead it is my hope to
facilitate an attitude of respect and understanding so that relationships are
not broken and God’s grace can abound. It is only when God's grace is
abounding in an atmosphere of Christ's love and peace, that people can
grow in Christ and be encouraged in their personal journey. This is also
called 'safe harbor'
Finally .. we need the support and encouragement of others … the
assurance that we are not alone in the journey. This is why we have this
online forum .. a place where we can journey together and love and support
one another through this process.
